Among the announced new products that the Osprey Packs brand is preparing for 2018 is a series of men’s and women’s ultra-light Levity / Lumina backpacks in 45 and 60-liter versions. The Osprey Levity 45 and Osprey Levity 60 models are positioned by the manufacturer as the lightest backpacks in the collection with such a fairly roomy usable volume. The total weight of empty backpacks is declared at the level of 810 and 850 grams, respectively, the recommended load is no more than 12 kg.

The key parameter that influenced the weight of the products is the main material with the commercial name NanoFly. This thin and light material with a declared density of no more than 210 denier has a very high strength, which is achieved by an effective combination of high-strength polyethylene (UHMWPE) and nylon fibers, using reinforced rip-stop weaving (the size of the «cage» does not exceed 2×2 mm).

In addition, the overall weight of the Osprey Levity series of hiking backpacks has been reduced thanks to the updated AirSpeed unloading and hanging system, which is based on an aluminum tubular frame, perforated stiffening sheet, lightweight quick-drying mesh, as well as ExoForm volumetric mesh inserts on adjustable shoulder straps and unloading belt .

In order to achieve the lowest possible weight and maintain a high displacement, the design of the Osprey Levity backpacks turned out to be quite simple. The design includes a main compartment with a classic top-loading and fastening for a drinking system, a removable top flap-compartment, roomy open pockets on the sides, and a large frontal compression valve. On the outside, there are also lightweight compression straps and a pair of elastic cords.

Free sales of the Osprey Levity/Lumina series of ultra-light hiking backpacks should start in early spring 2018, the estimated cost of the Osprey Levity 45 and Osprey Levity 60 models will be about $250 and $270, respectively.
