Columbia Sportswear decided not to stop there, in terms of introducing OutDry Extreme membrane technology, and next year, in addition to the OutDry Extreme ECO Shell hardshell jacket, it plans to move from outerwear to shoes. By the spring of 2017, at least five new products should appear on the market under the Columbia Montrail brand. Trient OutDry Extreme (Trans Alps) hiking shoes and Caldorado II OutDry Extreme trail running shoes already announced.

Both models are designed with OutDry Extreme technology, which was introduced to the market last summer. A key feature of the OutDry Extreme membrane material, which is thinner and lighter than the competition, is the absence of any outer layer protecting the membrane. On the outside, there is an exclusively perforated polyurethane membrane that provides the necessary waterproof and vapor permeability, as well as being dense and durable enough to be subject to long-term wear.

In addition to the OutDry Extreme membrane, the Trient OutDry Extreme and Caldorado II OutDry Extreme use PU and TPU reinforcement and support. Inside, it features a sweat-wicking, antibacterial-treated mesh lining and a supportive, fully removable, flexible foam footbed.

The design of the sole of the sneakers, like the upper, is completely different, but identical technologies are used. The midsole combines ESS technology for protection, support and torsional flexibility, with a cushioning midsole made of FluidFoam foam, which the manufacturer claims is more resistant to wear, retains its shape better and does not lose its properties during sudden changes in temperature. The outsole is made of TPU, the Trient OutDry Extreme uses a branded outsole, while the Caldorado II OutDry Extreme uses a Vibram outsole, with a height difference between the heel and toe of only 12 m.

Repositioned outdoor shoes with OutDry Extreme technology should start shipping in the first months of spring 2017, the Caldorado II OutDry Extreme is priced at $155, and the Trient OutDry Extreme (Trans Alps) will cost at least $175.
