In addition to the new Ascender line of lightweight shoulder pads designed for cross-country running and speed-hiking, Deuter is preparing a series of more traditional backpacks for next season, including a new generation of the lightweight Speed Lite series. Initially, the Speed Lite line, which was created for short-term day trips, speed-hiking, or easy-going, will feature seven models with a useful volume of 13 to 30 liters and a weight of 370 to 880 grams, respectively..
The smaller models Speed Lite 13 (44 x 24 x 15 cm, 370g), Speed Lite 17 (45 x 26 x 16 cm, 390g) and Speed Lite 21 (46 x 27 x 19 cm, 430g) will have almost identical design and functionality, and differ mainly in overall dimensions, as well as the presence in the Speed Lite 21 model of an additional mesh pocket on the front side.
Backpacks Speed Lite 23 SL (52 x 27 x 18 cm, 680 g) and Speed Lite 25 (55 x 29 x 19 cm, 710 g), in addition to a mesh pocket, will receive additional external attachments, for example, for trekking poles, and a more developed unloading belt. The Speed Lite 28 SL (61 x 28 x 20 cm, 840 g) and Speed Lite 30 (64 x 28 x 22 cm, 880 g) versions will also get a top compressor compartment and an additional secure pocket inside.
All Speed Lite versions shown are made primarily from a combination of 100 and 140 denier nylon rip-stop materials, which is made entirely from recycled materials. Shoulder pads with a volume of 13 to 21 liters inclusive provides a lightweight suspension system without any frame. Models from 23 liters onwards are based on the Deuter Lite suspension system and feature a Delrin thermoplastic U-frame.
The Deuter Speed Lite line of lightweight hiking backpacks should go on free retail sale closer to the spring of 2022, the manufacturer has announced five color options. The future retail price is still unknown.
