Gerber Gear, a popular manufacturer of cutting tools and accessories, has expanded its relatively budget-friendly collection of folding knives this week with the addition of a new series of pocket knives called Ayako, which is currently only available in two finishes (Green, Silver). The new series stands out for its all-metal construction, lightweight construction and overall design in the style of traditional Japanese swords..
The Ayako folding blade, which has a length of almost 89 mm (cutting edge length 92 mm), is made of 2.5 mm corrosion-resistant alloy steel grade 7Cr17MoV, the hardness of which is declared by the manufacturer in the range of 57-59 units on the HRC scale. The blade can be removed using a special hole at the base, or using a front flipper. The blade is fixed with a frame-lock steel lock.
The handle of Ayako knives, with a length of about 115 mm, has a two-component structure, which is formed by an aluminum textured grip and a stainless steel lock. To fasten the pads, ordinary steel torx bolts are used. Among other things, the design of the handle includes a steel clip that can only be installed in one position. The total length of the open knife is 205 mm, the weight is almost 108 grams.
At this stage, the Gerber Ayako series folding pocket knife is only available in two colors (Green, Silver) and is priced at $31 (some major dealers are accepting orders for $27). It is possible to place an order directly on the manufacturer’s website.
