The other day, Gerber Gear opened orders for a new universal field knife Gerber Ultimate (Gerber Ultimate Survival Knife), which is almost entirely based on the fairly popular model of the Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife survival knife, with the exception of the lack of a black coating on the blade, a texture on the handle and overall color scheme. At this stage, the knife is presented only with a partially serrated sharpening..
In addition to serrated sharpening, the blade of the Gerber Ultimate model, which has a drop-point shape, provides a special edge on the butt for the use of a steel. The blade itself is made of 4.8 mm Chinese stainless steel grade 7Cr17MoV, the hardness of which is declared by the manufacturer in the range of 57-59 units on the HRC scale. The full length of the blade borders on the mark of 122 mm.
The handle of the new knife provides a combined ergonomic design, consisting mainly of reinforced polymer, which is covered with a layer of anti-slip rubber on the outside and complemented by a percussion pommel with a small whistle lanyard. The total length of the knife is at least 254 mm, the length of the handle is almost 132 mm, the weight of the knife, excluding the sheath, is about 317 grams.
The knife is supplied by Gerber Ultimate complete with a polymer sheath, which provides for a universal fastening for a trouser belt, and is also complemented by a flint and a fully removable sharpener from the back. The recommended retail price for the entire kit is set at $46, while major distributors are already accepting orders for around $33.
