In the spring of 2022, the German shoe company LOWA will launch the second generation of Cadin mountain boots, which went on sale back in 2019. The new version was developed almost from scratch, the last was changed by the manufacturer, and the sole and upper were completely redesigned, including the lacing system. According to the manufacturer himself, all the main changes were aimed at reducing weight (1310 g), increasing support and overall comfort level during prolonged use..
The upper part of the Cadin II GTX mountain boot will be made using natural water-resistant leather and a multi-layered reinforced mesh material that provides a high level of breathability at the neck and tongue-flap. In addition, to provide the necessary support and protection against possible mechanical damage, dense thermopolyurethane pads are used. Inside, there is a mesh lining and a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane.
The lacing system of the new boots, as before, provides for the possibility of two-zone tension distribution and is complemented by the X-LACING central block, but at the same time it has a lighter design. In addition, the reinforced holes at the base have been replaced with a pair of metal eyelets, and the central pair of hooks are now secured with a metal rivet rather than nylon tape.
The sole of the new mountain boots, which is complemented from the inside by an anatomical insole made of polyurethane foam, synthetic felt and thin conductive polyester fabric, has a multi-component design. The outsole is made up of a dense padding, a flexible arch support, a TPU support layer that also forms a rigid base for climbing crampons, a shock-absorbing PU foam layer, and a Vibram-branded TPU-blend outsole.
The new LOWA Cadin II GTX mountain boot will be available in several color options for men, women and children. The shoes have a suggested retail price of around $340. The start of free sales is scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
